Recently, it was announced that McQuarrie and Tom Cruise were getting the band back together for two brand-new “Mission: Impossible” films that would be produced back to back and release a year apart, beginning in 2021. Judging by fan response, due to their previous ‘M:I’ collaborations being so great, everyone was pleased with this news. But buried down in the initial report from THR lies a little nugget that seemed to get initially overlooked, but then caught fire in the days since – McQuarrie and WB were considering a DC superhero film while he was deciding what to do next.

As you might imagine, fans went wild. What superhero project did McQuarrie almost do? Will he do a DC film after ‘M:I’ is done? Does he hate WB and DC because he snubbed them in favor of two more films with Tom Cruise? And on, and on, and on.

On Twitter, McQuarrie has had enough of this speculation and set the record straight. “The stories you’re reading are not accurate. That’s all I can say,” he tweeted.

But don’t worry, that’s not all he can say.

There you have it, stop trying to will McQuarrie and WB into a DC partnership. It’s not happening right now. And judging by his recent comments about past experiences, it’s likely never going to happen. Let’s just be happy he’s doing a couple more “Mission: Impossible” films and call it a day.
